AECOM, California Varsity Collaborate On Nanotechnology Research
Published: 21-Jul-2010
AECOM Technology, a global provider of professional technical and management support services to environmental market, is collaborating with the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, University of California, on new nanotechnology research project.
Under the project, AECOM will provide technical resources, review, and financial support to conduct studies on the environmental impact and transport, toxicity and handling of nanoscale zero valent iron (nZVI) — a nanomaterial used for treating contaminated groundwater and soils.
Pars Environmental is providing a sample of their nZVI product – NanoFe for laboratory testing.
AECOM will share the latest data on social and economic impacts of nanotechnology in the health and medicine, energy, water and food sectors for the Australian Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, with Bren researchers.
Robert Weber, CEO of AECOM Environment, said: “We are pleased to collaborate with the Bren School in this important research. While nZVI has been effective for groundwater treatment, its environmental and human health risks need further study.
"Research such as ours is critical to helping industry and the public understand the health and environmental implications of nanomaterials."
